How to Make the Best Out of Your Small Apartment

I’ve had my fair share of apartments throughout my twenties! Although they were not in the biggest spaces, I still managed to make my area cozy and comfortable to live in. My first marital apartment with my husband, which we are currently still living in, is a 2 bedroom 1 bath. While it’s a nice apartment to stay in while we’re on the search for a house, we get bored of our set up every now and then.

This was our apartment set up when we first moved in. Very basic, no decor set up yet!

When we first moved in, we didn’t have a lot of our own furniture because we shared most of our living room furniture with previous roommates. When we finally got stuff for our home, we didn’t know where to put it so we just placed items in the most convenient areas at the time. It took some time until we were really comfortable with our set up to really start moving things around in our home. Here’s how we did it!

  1. Switching out home decor from time to time

I love buying home decor even if it’s not relevant to the theme I’m trying to go with – I honestly just get whatever is cute! It’s kind of a bad habit but honestly it’s nice to be able to have stuff like fall decorations to have ready for the season to help you really get into the upcoming holiday. I also like to spruce up my coffee table by putting out seasonal decor or a candle to fit the setting. It also gives me something to look forward to when I’m cleaning up the place. And there’s nothing wrong with switching up your wall art from time to time! I like to use Pinterest for some home inspiration so I can keep up with what current wall art trends are out there.

Just a few things I like to keep in my coffee table tray – a candle, some candy, our TV remotes, and these cute coasters!

It took me awhile to figure out how I wanted to style my bar cart!
  1. Moving furniture around

When we first moved into our apartment, we were so stressed out with moving and planning our wedding at the time that we didn’t really have a layout plan for our furniture. We just placed our couch and TV wherever we thought was suitable for the time being. As time went by, we started to really think about moving the apartment around – the only downside is that moving furniture while updating your apartment arrangement is not easy. I’m not the strongest person around and since it’s just my husband and I in our household, some items are too heavy even with the two of us working together.

If you need help moving furniture around, I highly recommend you contact Fresh Start – The Moving Crew. They are residential movers in Worcester County and they have so many services to offer whether you need help moving to a new place or simply just needing extra labor moving a couch to another room! It’s incredible that they offer labor services because if it was just my husband and I moving around a couch, we definitely could use the extra hand…or two! And best of all, their services are available all around the New England area. They also provide storage services to help store any furniture if you are planning on doing renovations that may take a while. Their warehouses are climate controlled so you don’t have to worry about humidity or unwanted pests in your belongings. You can get a quote with Fresh Start to make sure they stay within your budget!

  1. Does it bring me joy or not bring me joy?

Ah yes, I’m sure we’ve all Marie Kondo’d our homes at one point but real talk…isn’t it the most satisfying feeling? I’ve definitely cleaned out my apartment several times by trying to get rid of things my husband and I don’t use anymore. Maybe the bedsheets or posters from college just don’t do it for me anymore. How was I able to clean out my apartment? I took a day with my husband to go through stuff that we had lying around. When we first moved in to our apartment, we threw out some of stuff that we just took with us for no reason but when we were moving things around in the apartment, we had to think about if we were going to use them anytime soon. Clothes I haven’t worn in a year? Gone. Books we never read? Gone. Old kitchenware that has been used multiple times? You bet. Once I did it, our apartment felt shiny and brand new. It’s amazing how a deep clean can make your place feel cozier.

You can honestly do a lot with a small apartment and it just takes a little bit of time, patience, and maybe a little help from the professionals along the way to get you going!
